Match Report

09/05/10   Rothwell Juniors   7 - 0   Westend Tigers.  The last game of a what seems the longest season ever, ended with a great win at home. After the disappointment of losing on Friday to South Leeds, and the unsavoury ending to that game, we enjoyed a relaxed game, with the team being mixed up, with Strikers in defence and defenders up front. We started really well thisweek, charging forward only for Aidens goal being ruled out for offside. Westend then settled down and made a game of it, creating chances, but we were always on top, playing some great football, but not finishing the chances we created. It took a full half hour before Tom Kirkbride broke the deadlock and we were 1 - 0 up. With Alex, Sam Whiteley 2 and a great finish from 30 yds by Titch all scoring in the next 10 mins we went in to half time 5 - 0 up. The team was swapped about again at half time, but this did not stop our attacking football. We were in total control and with Tom Kirkbride scoring his 2nd, and Sam Wilson dribbling thru to score we won the game by 7 clear goals. What was pleasing was wherever they were played, the players were comfortable in their new positions and we kept a clean sheet. This has been our best season yet, finishing fifth in the league, with a positve goal difference. We played 22 games, winning 12, drawing 1 and losing 9.  I would like to thank all the players for their effort, and I have enjoyed coaching you this season. Thanks to all the parents for their support and taxi service's. I hope we can stay together as a squad for next season, to be even more competative. Here's looking forward to next season, cos I am missing football already. ROFL. STU
