Match Report

Juniors 0 Beeston 5

After 2 good performances hopes were high for a victory at home to Beeston. Following heavy rain during the week the Shayfield pitch was very soft which seemed to have more of an impact on our players than our visitor’s right from the start. After only 4 minutes Beeston broke through the middle and a fine strike put them 1 up. Just 5 minutes later a good cross from the right led to a goal mouth scramble and a Beeston boot poked the ball home for a 2 - 0 lead. Juniors tried to get back into the game and on 15 minutes a ball over the top from Jonathan sent Eddy away, he got round the keeper but his shot was cleared by a defender. Three minutes later a cross from the right side of the penalty area was turned into the bottom left by a Beeston striker to make it 3 – 0. On 28 minutes a fine header from a Beeston corner put our visitors ahead at half time 4-0.
Juniors started the second half much better but were unable to find a way through the Beeston defence and then on 42 minutes against the run of play Beeston broke through and scored their 5th goal. For the next 20 minutes both teams cancelled each other out but Juniors kept pushing forward and on 63 minutes Nathan made a fine run down the left, cut into the box and shot just wide of the post. The final whistle came with the score 5-0 to Beeston, a disappointing result but at least the lads kept going and gave a much better performance in the second half.

Tingley 4 Juniors 3

A victory in defeat just about sums up this match. Juniors arrived at Tingley with only 10 fit players so it was always going to be difficult against a side that beat us 2 – 5 only a few weeks earlier. The game kicked off and Juniors went straight on the attack, after only 5 mins a long free kick from Owen found the Tingley defence static and Jonathan raced between them to slot the ball home. Tingley then went on the attack but the defence held firm and on 20 mins a great run and pass by Nathan found Dylan in the box who shot past the keeper 0 – 2. Tingley started to throw more men forward and on 30 mins after a good run down the middle they pulled a goal back. On 34 mins a fine run and shot by Tingley was well saved by Connor, a minute later a mix up in our defence gave away a soft goal, 2 -2 at half time.

On 43 mins Jonathan broke down the left and put a fine pass through to Dylan whose shot was saved. A minute later Jonathan cut inside 2 players and his shot from 30 yards out rattled the post. Tingley then broke down the middle and against the run of play took a 3 – 2 lead. On 55 minutes Nathan played a long ball over the top for Luke who outpaced the Tingley defence and slotted the ball past the keeper 3 – 3. Then, just 4 minutes later Nathan hit a shot from 25 yards which this time rattled the cross bar. It was now starting to become clear that it wasn’t going to be our day and with just 5 mins remaining a miss hit clearance in defence left Connor one on one with a Tingley striker, Connor did well to force the striker out wide but he still managed to fire the ball home from the narrowest of angles to make the final score 4 – 3. Connor had a fine game between the posts and there was another man of the match performance from Nathan closely followed by Jonathan. Although we lost, under the circumstances it almost felt like a win. Fantastic effort lads.

Rothwell Juniors 5 - 2 Yorkshire Amateurs

The lads first win of the season, was well deserved and has been on the cards for several games.

It was a quiet start to the game with very little goal mouth action and the 2 teams cancelling each other out. Then after around 15 minutes the goal mouth action started, with a long ball was played over the top; both Jonathan and Eddie made contact with it together and produced an inch perfect lob over the keeper. Unfortunately, it was our keeper and the own goal gave our visitors the lead. Within a minute Juniors were level, a shot from the edge of the area was fumbled by the keeper and Connor was on hand to slot home the equaliser making it 1 -1 at half time. Almost from the kick off in the second half Jonathan played a great through ball that Charlie ran on to and beat the keeper with a fine strike. Within a couple of minutes it was 3 – 1, this time Nathan shot from the edge of the area and the ball took a deflection and beat the keeper. It was all Juniors now, Luke came off the bench and with one of his first touches of the game prodded the ball home to make it 4 – 1. A couple of minutes later Luke was through again down the right and put a fine shot across the face of goal but just inches wide of the post. Amateurs then started to throw men forward and it paid off when they scored an excellent goal in the bottom corner from a cross on the right. Back came Juniors and once again it was Nathan who got on the end of a pass in the six yard box, his shot was blocked by a defender but the ball looped up in the air and into the goal to make it 5 – 2. This was a game played in good spirit with very few free kicks or stoppages and produced a well deserved first win of the season for the boys. A special mention for Elliott and Nathan who were both outstanding and a big well done to all the boys.
