Match Report
After ‘The Case of the Missing Notebook’ in the aftermath of our stunning victory against Stanningley, extra security precautions are now in place to prevent any future mishaps. This reporter takes full responsibility however, he was ably abetted by a Mr John Smith’s of the Woodman Arms.
A trip to the pastoral surroundings of Roundhay Park this Sunday brought Juniors up against the tough opposition of North East Leeds, a team with title aspirations.
Juniors blasted out of the blocks eager to get underway after the frustrations of cancelled fixtures. Leeds were a team with lots of pace and aggression however, it was Juniors that had the lions share of possession and chances in the first quarter. A lovely flowing move started in defence and then through midfield saw Euan thread a sweet ball to Joe C whose fierce shot was well saved by the keeper. Joe S was next to trouble the Leeds defence when his shot was parried wide by the Leeds shot-stopper, who was earning his pocket money. A corner whipped in by Dylan resulted in a goal mouth scramble that saw three Juniors attackers just unable to turn the ball home. At this point Juniors were well on top Dylan and Sam were turning defence into attack finding Euan and Joe S on the flanks with some classy passing and Joe C was bossing the midfield and getting forward having a looping drive spectacularly saved by the keeper. Tommy upfront had a great chance just screw wide and Juniors were well on top, just a little unfortunate that all their pressure had not resulted in a goal. Leeds were dangerous when they broke from midfield and Joe S made a cracking goal mouth clearance to keep the scores even. As ever Brad in between the sticks was as solid putting his body on the line to stop any shot that got through. Towards the end of the half Tommy had another great chance however, the keeper once again pulled off a fantastic save. Leeds were getting back into the game as the half was concluding and Juniors were now in a dog fight. Brad once more kept honours even with a string of superb saves however, Leeds managed to break the deadlock just before half time with a well taken low drive 0-1.
With the performance the boys had put in over the first period everyone was confident if Juniors just showed a little more bite in the tackle and composure when making decisions up front, they would have a real chance of getting a result from this fixture. On the other hand Leeds had been energised by their goal and came out all guns blazing at Juniors in the opening part of the half, again Brad made some fine saves however, Leeds had their tails up and added two goals in quick succession 0-2 0-3. Juniors were still trying to settle in to a passing game and some nice little moves were getting them forward Haydn made some good passes off his wing and Kian was always busy around the field with some neat touches. Alex worked hard in defence to stop the attacks and Kurtis upfront was full of running trying to get on the end of the Juniors attacks. Leeds were the more confident now though and put the game beyond Juniors with a fourth 0-4. Then after a rather bizarre touchline incident the game just seem to ebb away with Leeds adding two late goals 0-5 0-6.
The score line flattered Leeds especially after Juniors great start, if just one of the half a dozen chances would have gone Juniors way in the first quarter the result may have been a little different. The boys will be working hard at training after their enforced absence and will hopefully be back to winning ways very soon.
