Right boys the cobwebs have been blown off now with a game and a training session under our belts after a long lay off, so there is no excuses this week. We take on Woodkirk at fleetlane and even though we went 1-0 up the last time we played them we crumbled to a 4-2 defeat so we can't take woodkirk lightly they will be fighting for every point possible. 1st game meet at 10:00, 2nd game 11:10, Fleetlane. Team selection Below.

Can you please let me know if your child is or isn't available.

Match Report

Game 1:  Rothwell Juniors 2 - Garforth Villa 4.

This game was one of the most entertaining games I've seen this season and although we lost this game and deserved to lose purely on chances, Garforth took theirs and we just seemed to have one of those days when things just didn't fall our way and shots went just agonisingly wide or just over, this is taking nothing away from Garforth who were excellent and made the game a spectacle for all the parents to watch, the football played by both teams was a delight to watch. Garforth came to fleetlane today and played a strong team and came out of the traps like a champion greyhound. Rothwell was asleep for the first 10 minutes and Garforth took the lead within minutes of the start and then notched another, 2-0 down and the boys started to wake up. the lads started putting some passes together and putting pressure on the Garforth back line, Joe was a constant threat and was instrumental up and down the wing, Harry was much of the same on the right and Ollie finally woke up and got amongst Garforths players, Ellis and Jack decided to defend with a bit more fire and Kian didn't have much to do after the first ten minutes, William seemed back to his old self after a couple of games off the pace and was holding the ball up really well today and just did the simple things well. Halftime, 2-0 Garforth and with the chances we had I thought it could quite easily of been 2-2 but it wasn't to be. The boys came in at halftime and we talked about getting to the ball first and not sitting back and watching Garforth play, Harry was rested for Joe maloney and Ollie got a break for Josh Fleary. Second half came along and I couldn't believe what I was watching, We made exactly the same mistakes in the second half as we did in the first half, we sat off Garforth and before we knew it we were 4-0 down, however Garforths movement at set pieces was excellent and if you don't track your men especially at corners then you get punished by quality teams and that's what happened, when Garforths excellent number 9 headed home, now at 4-0 down it was game over but what I will say about the boys they never stopped trying and with 5 minutes to go they got a much needed boost when Jack found himself hustling and bustling in the box to whip his foot round the ball and get his 1st league goal of the season 4-1 and to be honest a scoreline that should really of been less had we had the same desire in the first 10 minutes of both halves as we did in the last 10 minutes of the halves. So it's 4-1 and not long left when our man of the match Joe Turpin threaded the ball through to Joe maloney for Joe to split Garforths defence and slide a ball to our other man of the match Will E who strode onto the ball and with great composure wallop the ball with the outside of his right foot into the back of the net, I just wish we'd of had another 10 minutes of play as this seemed to take Garforth back a bit and with seconds to go we could have quite of easily made it 4-3 but it wasn't to be and the game came to an end. All I can say boys we'll play a lot worse than we did today and hammer someone. So well done all of you!

MOM: Joe Turpin: (Great speed with the ball with vision and desire) Well done mate!

MOM: Will Emmerson (Played the game simple, great hold up play and a great finish) Well done mate!

Game 2: Rothwell Junior 2 - Garforth Villa 0.

Well if this game had only half the entertainment in it that the first game had then we were in for another cracking game. The game started off  a bit scrappy but after 5 minutes or so both teams settled down and started to play some good football. Matty Kyle was a tower of strength at the back playing the ball out, Oliver Spoors was causing Garforth problems with his trickery, Will Sheen (mr versitile) was getting to grips with yet another new position and looked to get to grips with his job, Callum is now showing his potential with some great interceptions, Thomas was his usual commanding self in goal and Kian Wade was picking up some great positions, Regan fought for every ball and looks like he as a real will to win. Now the first half was a bit of a stale mate with both teams cancelling each other out but both teams were playing football how it should be played on the floor, so halftime came with the odd chance for both teams but nothing to really get the crowd going, it was a well fought first half with very little chances but good football none the less. Second half Josh came on for what seems to be his other half Callum and Allan got a run out up front for Kian. Allan looked like he'd had a good rest and was fighting for every ball and Josh who I must say is impressing me this season was solid. Now in this game Matty showed his class and seemed to stand out with his runs and releasing the ball at the right time for the rest of the team to benefit, I just had this feeling that this game was going to go like the first, that we'd get our chances but it wasn't going to be our day until the tiger that is Allan got amongst Garforths defence and put the boys 1-0 up and a lead we thoroughly deserved, now the boys could settle and start playing a bit more relaxed and that is just what happened with Matty taking control and showing his leadership, when Garforth did get their chances Thomas was on hand to keep yet another clean sheet. The game was slightly slower than the first game but the boys produced a real gem of a goal with some precise passing I counted at least five passes coming from Allan on the left to Mattty to Regan to Oliver Spoors back to Regan for Regan to whip the ball in for Ollie to side foot home 2-0 and a great team goal. 2-0 and 5 minutes left so the chance to give people a run in different positions Callum came on the right and did a stirling job, Kian got a run on the left and with some great footwork got to the byline to put in an excellent cross. All in all it was a great all round team performance and kept us in touching distance of the leaders, so now it's game on, and we have got our four games over with one of the strongest teams in the league and over the four games honours is even with both teams taking 4 points, which doesn't surprise me at all.

MOM: Matty Kyle (composure, quick feet, also now getting the sense to release the ball at the right time, a leaders performance) Well done mate!

Lastly a quick mention to Garforth Villa who are a pleasure to play everytime, great coaches who want to play the game competitively, but fair and that shows in their team. Not one malicious tackle all day, a hard fought contest done in the right manner, played with good spirit and good football from both sets of very talented 10 year olds.

Good luck for the rest of the season kevin!
