The Girls where excited about this game they had great expectations mainly due to
them being extremely triumphant against Normanton a 15-
A different Normanton turned up on this windy Saturday morning they clearly came to defend for all the game and hope on a break away goal, especially in the second half when they threw caution to the wind, when there goal keeper joined the outfielders.
Rothwell started well the first 10 minutes were a close contest mainly in the Normanton half. Rothwell had the majority of the ball but Normanton clearly came to defend and frustrate Rothwell.
At this stage the Rothwell girls were starting to get on top in all areas. Normanton still resilient in defence, But Rothwell again broke them down with some great play, which resulted in a magnificent strike about 7 to 10m out straight into the top left hand corner of the Normanton goal scored by debutant Ellerby Kendal. I am sure she is still smiling now, after that one.
Rothwell by this time were well in control but Normanton still stead fast in defence and trying to get that break away chance. But they clearly didn’t account for Maisie and Beth being so strong in the Rothwell defence, Maisie who was captain for today performed like a real star, clearing every attempted attack from Normanton. Beth marshaled along side Maisie what a combination. Well played girls
Rothwell again scored this time Maddie finished off a bit of a goal mouth scramble
with a low strike 2-
Ellie and Leah replaced Rosie and Ellerby for the second half, Normanton continued
playing defensively but now there goal keeper was playing as an outfielder. Rothwell
took advantage of this with some cool passing which resulted in Haley beating the
retreating goal keeper with a couple of neat turns and scoring into an empty goal.
3-
Normanton had a short spell where they looked like that they might pull a goal back, with the advantage of the extra outfield player. Rothwell defense held out with Lauren (super keeper) making some superb stops after long spells of nothing to do.
Ellerby returned into play shortly followed by Rosie. Rothwell quickly regained
control of the game; they continued playing some amazingly good football. Debutant
Ellerby scored two more goals with Rosie also adding a further goal. Normanton were
finished, no way back in to this game. What a start a hat trick for her first game.Well
played Ellerby. 6-
Rothwell Juniors Girls again triumphant despite Normanton trying to dampen the attacking style of football, still top of the league great performance girls
