Rothwell Juniors under 10's girls took on Howden Clough in this home encounter with Howden Clough knowing that a win over the Champions Rothwell would give them the runners up spot.
This game was played at a frantic pace going from end to end and Rothwell fell into the trap playing kick and rush which suited Howden.
But after 15 minutes Rothwell produced the football they can play which is a passing game and opened the scoring Rosie winning the ball in midfield and passing to Maddie on the left who in turn switched play out wide to Ellerby on the right and her first time pass into the middle was hit home in fine style by Haley 1-0 a great goal to watch.
Rothwell then began to push Howden back and just before half time a long clearance out of defence by Howden gave them an equaliser when Maise went to clear the ball it struck a Howden player chasing and it flew into Rothwells goal giving Ellie Mae no chance to save 1-1 at Half time.
The second half started like the first all kick and rush with very little football been played by either side and Howden pushing for that second goal, Lauren and Leah had come on for Rothwell and Lauren putting in some fine work, there were chances at either end with both teams firing wide.
But it was Rothwell who created another chance again by playing some nice football with Maddie putting Ellerby free on the right and again striker Haley finishing off the move by scoring her second and what turned out to be the winning goal with Howden battling to the end.2-1
This was Rothwells 3rd game in a week yet at the start of the season they went 5 weeks without a game which just doesn't seem right.
But well done girls and we are the Champions.
