Today’s games saw us pitted against the team placed 2nd in the league and so a hard afternoon’s work was expected.

The first team game kicked off and saw Rothwell dominating possession from the start with South Leeds hardly threatening at all, when they did manage any kind of attack it was quickly snapped out by the resolute defending of Charlie Denton and Oliver Frank. The midfield trio of Nathan Owen, Matthew France and Andy Slinger continued to create chance after chance and a goal had to come soon.
5 minutes before half time it duly arrived with Nathan picking the ball up on the half way line, striding forwards, then duly chipping the keeper from all of 30 yards. Rothwell had chances to increase the lead with Kieran Rix twice going close.
Half time 1-0.
The second half started as the first finished with Rothwell dominating, Nathan hit both crossbar and post but the killer second goal refused to come. South Leeds sensed they were still in the game and in the last ten minutes pressed for an equaliser and James Waterworth made some fine saves in the Rothwell goal but could do nothing when the South Leeds forward broke free and scored to make the end result 1-1.

The second team started with South Leeds having most of the play and some brave goalkeeping from Alan Irvine kept the score 0-0. After 10 minutes South Leeds scored to take the lead. This duly woke Rothwell up and they came charging back in the game. Defenders Sam Greaves and Ben Chadwick now had a tight grip on the South Leeds attack and midfielders Ryan Parker, Connor Smith and Joe Clarkson were taking charge of  proceedings especially Ryan who was now running riot.
The equaliser came from a corner with a lovely piece of opportune finishing with Joe Lynch back healing the ball home.
Half time 1-1.
The second half was one way traffic with Rothwell on the attack and the constant pressure proved too much in the end when the South Leeds keeper could only palm the ball into his own net from a corner as Rothwell constantly surged forward.
The game ended 2-1 to Rothwell and 4 points picked up against 2nd in the league proved to be a good day’s work
